Responsible Care
SPARKFORD is involved in trading, storing, handling and distributing chemicals. In order to sustain these activities, the company recognizes the need to conform to legislation and to manage risks to health, safety and the environment. There is an accord in this regard between responsible members of the chemicals industry. This is most clearly depicted by the distributors and traders who have come together to sponsor RESPONSIBLE CARE. SPARKFORD is committed to developing and sustaining its RESPONSIBLE CARE programme. This sweeps up all activities relating to the purchase and sale of chemical products and to the related services and functions in which the company participates. Particular attention is given to the transportation of chemicals which is, most often, the major interface we have with the public.

RESPONSIBLE CARE exists to ensure all necessary information is disseminated in the right manner and that everyone involved in the supply chain is competent to play their part. Put simply, this serves to prevent accidents. But beyond that, an emergency response mechanism and the resources required to meet emergencies are set in place permanently by SPARKFORD, within the framework of RESPONSIBLE CARE.

This formalized process of self-regulation addresses the concept of Product Stewardship inherent in the Guiding Principles. CEFIC defines product stewardship as: "The responsible and ethical management of the health, safety and environmental aspects of a product from its invention through its process of production, to its ultimate safe use and beyond. The CIA elaborates on this in describing the manner in which RESPONSIBLE CARE meets product stewardship: "We will assess the risks associated with our products and seek to ensure they are managed properly throughout the supply chain, through stewardship programmes involving our customers, suppliers and distributors."

SPARKFORD is committed to providing all key information about the chemicals it handles, moving them, storing them and dealing in them commercially in such a manner as to provide an acceptably high level of protection for the health & safety of the public, our customers, employees and indeed, the environment.
